CyBC director under probe, has been suspended

SENIOR state broadcaster (CyBC) employee Sophia Mouaimi, against whom a police investigation is underway after reports of abuse of power and blackmail, has been suspended from her duties, the Cyprus Mail has learned.

Against Mouaimi, who works at CyBC as a programmes officer, screenwriter and director, a police probe was launched earlier in the month, after she was reported to the Auditor-general by the head of the CyBC employees union EVRIK and the owner of a private production company.

Allegedly, Mouaimi received some €80,000, in addition to her CyBC salary for writing screenplays for the private company that produces a CyBC period drama, without declaring the extra income.

She was also reported of using her authority as a senior officer at CyBC to force the production company to hire her daughter who is an actress, with a higher salary than that of the other actors of the same calibre.

The police has already taken several testimony accounts concerning the case.
