House Speaker to get ‘Lagarde list’ on Friday

THE Presidency said on Thursday it has agreed to hand over a copy of the so-called ‘Lagarde List’ to House Speaker Yiannakis Omirou.

“The government, responding to a written request from House Speaker Mr Yiannakis Omirou, will tomorrow [Friday] deliver to his office a copy of the file related to the Lagarde List,” the government spokesman said in a written statement.

“It is our common goal to additionally safeguard and boost the public’s sense of trust that no tampering of the data contained in the file shall take place,” the statement added.

Earlier, Omirou had asked for a copy to be handed to his office, pledging to ensure the list would not be leaked after delivery.

The list includes the names of individuals and companies with deposits at HSBC Switzerland in 2005 and 2006.

A similar list was delivered to Greek authorities in 2010, but was kept in the drawers of the finance ministry until it was leaked to the press. It was later found that then finance minister Giorgos Papaconstantinou had removed the names of individuals related to him from the original document.
