Nuland due in Cyprus on Monday

US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will be in Cyprus on Monday and Tuesday, Washington said.

Nuland is expected to meet with senior Cypriot officials to discuss further advancing US-Cypriot relations, as well as regional issues, a State Department announcement said.

She will also meet with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders “to convey continued US support for a fair and lasting settlement of the Cyprus problem through the process facilitated by the UN Secretary General’s Good Offices Mission,” it added.

Nuland will also meet with civil society leaders from both communities.

She last paid a flash visit to Cyprus in February last year, days before the leaders of the two communities agreed a joint communique laying out the broad parameters of a settlement. It paved the way for the resumption of peace talks that had been stalled for two years.
