Six arrested for card fraud

SIX individuals from Russia and the Ukraine were remanded in custody for eight days on Thursday in connection with card fraud.

They were arrested after card processing company JCC reported to police that unknown individuals were making online orders from companies in Cyprus using false IDs and stolen card data.

The products were dispatched to the Paralimni area.

Police said they organised a sting operation on Wednesday just before 2pm in the Profitis Elias area.

Officers picked up a 27-year-old from Russia who arrived on the scene in a car with a Ukrainian man, 32.

A subsequent search of the house they were staying in nearby yielded a number of computers, tablets, mobile phones, shoes and clothing – all believed to have been purchased using stolen cards.

Four other Russians, aged between 24 and 30, were found staying at the house.

All six were arrested after failing to provide satisfactory explanation about the source of the items.
