Three arrested for using fake credit cards

Three foreign nationals on holiday in Limassol have been arrested for using fake credit cards.

The three, aged 20, 21 and 29 years respectively, arrived in Cyprus on September the 1. The following day, credit card service JCC issued the warning that three unknown persons were buying goods using fake credit cards.

The three young tourists continued their purchases until Thursday, when they were identified and arrested in a souvenir shop in Limassol after one of the cards was declined.

Police found 16 credit cards on them, and another 40 in the hotel room where they were staying in Limassol, Ioannis Soteriades, head of TAE Limassol, said.

“An inspection found that these were fake cards with the magnetic strip containing stolen data of persons from Russia,” Soteriades said, adding that “investigations xaminations are being made via Interpol to identify and obtain additional information about the real owners of the cards”.

It was also confirmed that the items the suspects had obtained from Paphos and Limassol were worth €3,000.

The suspects were remanded for seven days on Friday.
