Spate of burglaries at Napa hotels over the weekend nets thieves over €40,000 in valuables and cash

Electronic devices, jewelleries and cash adding up over €40,000 were stolen from hotel rooms in Ayia Napa on Saturday, which had been rented by Italians, Russians and Israelis, police said.

Four Italians reported to the police that on Saturday, between 9.30am and 11.30am, their rented property in Ayia Napa was broken into and jewelleries, electronic devices and cash adding up to €31,520 were stolen.

Police suspects the thieves entered through the balcony door which was closed but not locked.

Another incident was reported to the police where between 3 pm and 7 pm the hotel apartment of four Israelis was robbed. The value of their stolen property added up to €2,980.

Police suspects the robbers entered through the main door of the apartment after breaking the lock.

A Russian tourist also reported that between Saturday midnight and  6.30am on Sunday, cash, electronic devices and jewelleries adding up to €6,640 were stolen from his room while he was sleeping in it.

Police suspect the robbers entered from the balcony door which was closed but not locked.

None of the rooms had security cameras or alarm system and only the Israelis had insurance for their stolen property, police said.
