Speeding arrests

A 21-YEAR-OLD man was arrested on Sunday after he was caught driving at almost double the legal speed limit on the Nicosia to Troodos road.

Police said the man was doing 124 km per hour instead of 65 km.

The driver was charged in writing and released, police said.

Between Tuesday and Sunday, police chalked up over 2,000 reports for various traffic offences.

From a total of 2,190, 1,078 concerned speed limit violations.

Officers also breathalysed 1,788 and eventually booked 147 for drink driving.
