Over one thousand booked for speeding

POLICE have recorded over 3,000 various violations during a clampdown over the past week, most of them traffic related, they said on Monday.

Out of the thousands of checks carried out on persons, vehicles, and entertainment establishments, they booked 2,755 people for traffic offences, including 1,127 for speeding and 170 for drink-driving. Other offences included parking in disabled spots and other forms of illegal parking, and minor traffic offences for which drivers were given written warnings.

Of around 1,000 checks on entertainment establishments, 436 smoking violations were recorded during the week. Police also checked 62 firms employing security guards and booked one unlicensed staff member.
