Over €8m in income tax self-assessments paid in public coffers

THE government received over €8 million in taxes from people using the new self assessment procedure, it said.

Up until July 17, there were 11,483 taxpayers who had paid a total of €8.2m, according to tax department official Klelia Papadopoulou, the CNA reported. The figure was expected to increase closer to the July 30 deadline.

With regard to the Taxisnet system, 55,750 taxpayers submitted their tax returns online for the July 31 deadline.

Approximately 200,000 returns are submitted in both electronic and print form per year so it is estimated that the rest will be submitted in print.

Papadopoulou said that who were required to fill their tax returns and did not do so will be fined €100.  Taxpayers are obliged to file a tax return if their annual income is over €19,500.
