Limassol, where the beer flows freely

By Maria Gregoriou

Aaah summer, the sea, the sand, and yes we will say it, the open-air cinemas and the beer festivals.

Now, we won’t go on about the movies you can see under the stars – not today anyway – but we will tell you all about the first beer festival (or fiesta as the title puts it) of the summer. This year the beer will start to flow in Limassol as of tomorrow until Sunday.

So be at Enaerios parking place tomorrow at 8pm, when the Mayor of Limassol will officially welcome us all. The fiesta then begins (and ends, for those who overdo it) with a beer-drinking contest just before the highlight of the festival takes to the stage. Greek singer Christos Dantis will perform at 10pm.

The singer, who has been giving us great rock ballads since 1986, co-wrote the song My Number One which gave Greece the number one spot at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest.

The first night comes with a charge of €10 and tickets for the concert are available at all CoffeeEat stores.

Saturday begins at 8pm with the all-girl band Scarlett Echoes, another beer contest and a performance by the most famous Cypriot rock band Minus One.

Sunday gets more traditional, kicking off with the Coop Greek Rempetiki Band, a performance by Katerina Kampanelli who was a finalist in the reality show The Voice, more drinking beer to see who can drink it the fastest and a performance by Savvas Isovitis, Stelios Stylianou and the Bad Friends band.

Entrance on Saturday and Sunday is €5 and tickets for the three days come with a free drink.
