There is nothing quite like music under the summer moon. And with NASA announcing the discovery of a new planet with a lot in common with our own, maybe there is someone else out there who would listen.
If music, the moon and finding out what is out there are passions of yours then you are in for an excellent few days from Friday to Sunday at at Kato Drys in Larnaca during the Fengaros festival.
This is the fifth year the festival has been shaking things up in Larnaca and sending musical waves all around the island. It’s well-organised and jam-packed programme is something of a marvel among music lovers on the island.
The programme and the chance the festival gives to get away from city life is why the festival is considered one of the best and most highly-anticipated events of the summer.
But this year the festival does not only aim to entertain, it also has its sights on being established as a major international event. So the organisers vow to offer an enriched line-up of renowned acts from the international scene.
You will be spoilt for choice as bands and solo artists from Cyprus, Greece, England, France and the USA will create an amalgamation of music ranging from traditional to progressive, ethnic, blues, pop/rock, psychedelic, ambient, jazz and more.
Just a few names to whet your appetite are the renowned world music act Banda Magda from the USA, the Epirus stoner-rockers Villagers of Ioannina City from Greece, from the UK the three-man band Flying Ibex, the Cretan music virtuoso quartet Xylouris/Spyridakis/Persides/Katsikiotis, the band The Burger Project from Greece, the freak-folk Le Juki from the UK and the upcoming psychedelic-pop band The Cave Children, from Greece.
Although these musical acts are more suited to adults, children are never out of the picture as the festival has also aims to set little feet dancing with acts like Dimitris Baslam from Greece, Martha Mavroidi’s ethnic trio, also from Greece, and Alexia C’s solo act from France.
The local music scene will also be represented by the veterans of Cypriot rock To Marazi tis Fotoulas, folk and alternative rockers J. Kriste, Master of Disguise and three-member band Tricolore, who are sure to bring a little night jazz to the scene.
As there will be so much going on, there will be three stages running at the same time, namely, the Main Stage, the Village Stage and the ABR Stage.
If you have been to the festival before, you will be familiar with the village’s graphic scenery and its source of inspiration for both artists and audience members to get lost in the rhythm of music.
Tickets cost €15 for one day, €25 for the whole festival on a pre-sale basis, at the door it is €20 for one day and €35 for the three-day event.
