Inmate attempts suicide over love affair goes wrong

A 36-year-old man currently serving a 20-year sentence a the Nicosia central prisons for murder tried to kill himself on Tuesday, a police source told the Cyprus Mail.

The inmate tried to hang himself from the bars of his cell. He was found unconscious by prison guards and was rushed to the Nicosia General Hospital, where he is being treated.

According to the police source, the man had previously been told by a woman he was having an affair with that she wanted to break up.

The man was sentenced to 20 years in November 2014 for murdering his wife.
