5,000 students call for better education for girls

MORE than 5,000 petitions in support of the NGO World Vision were presented to the minister of education by six girls from three different schools on Thursday.

The petitions, championing the support for the education of girls, were the result of the island wide screening of the documentary “GirlRising” in primary and secondary schools.

The screening was launched by World Vision under the umbrella of their global campaign supporting the right of every girl to basic education.

At the press conference organised for the collection of the petitions, the minister of education expressed his satisfaction and congratulated the Cypriot students.

“I warmly congratulate World Vision Cyprus, our fellow citizens who work for the realisation of this campaign , but also all our students who signed the statement of support, giving the message that our young people are not complacent,” minister Costas Kadis said and added, “the Cypriot state widely supports all efforts aimed at safeguarding respect for human dignity.”
