Fire brought under control

A wildfire in Mazeri, an area in the village of Lefkara, Larnaca, broke out shortly after noon Monday, but was under control an hour later.

According to the Forestry Department, the fire was under control by around 1:30 pm, after burning through  2,000 squared metres of pine trees, bushes, and scrubland.

In putting the fire out, 30 firefighters and 10 fire engines were engaged, in addition to a water drop by a fire-fighting air-tanker.

As police investigate the cause of the fire, members of the Forestry Department and the Game Fund remain in the area to address possible flare-ups.
