Drugs chase in Nicosia

POLICE in Nicosia fired shots on Thursday evening to stop a car suspected of carrying drugs and eventually detained three suspects on suspicion of possession of over three kilos of cannabis.

Three kilos were inside two bags in the possession of a 27-year-old who was riding a motorcycle that was intercepted by the drug squad at around 8.30pm in Latsia.

The rest, 500 grammes, was found in a car with two suspects, 28 and 26, who failed to stop when flagged down by police officers. The car had been following the motorcycle.

In the ensuing chase, police fired at the vehicle’s tyres. In their bid to escape, the two suspects collided with police vehicles.

A subsequent search of their homes came up empty, police said.
