Looking at the same stars

By Maria Gregoriou

Home for Cooperation has become the place where people from all different walks of life can come together and feel like, well, as the name clearly states, home.

This time the home will use language and the playfulness of children to bring the two communities on our island together.

The two languages, Greek and Turkish, will bring to life the new childrens’ book Apo Ti Gi Mexri Ta Asteria / Dunyalar Kadar (From the Ground up to the Stars) on Saturday.

The story, written by Marina Michaelidou-Kadi and Mehves Mbeitoglou, and illustrated by Angeliki Pilati, touches a very sensitive subject, that of a mother and child. The mother raises her child in the hope that he will grow-up in a better world.

Both authors will read from the book in their own languages and Pilai will be there to create illustrations along with the children.

Kadi has written a number of children’s books, one of them being Savel’s Red Dress, about a girl who became a refugee due to war.

Mbeitoglou is involved in various activities promoting peace building and is the coauthor of a number of textbooks which have to do with history and how we can re-write it.

Pilati is an architect but also writes and illustrates children’s books.
