Rape suspect remanded

A 36-year-old man from Egypt living in Larnaca was remanded in custody for eight days on Thursday for allegedly raping his 15-year-old step-daughter.

The man was arrested on Wednesday after the girl reported that he was repeatedly raping her ever since she was eleven.

According to police reports, the sexual abuse against the girl began in 2011 and the last incident occurred two months ago.

The girl, who visited a Larnaca police station with her mother, claimed that the incidences occurred either at home during the absence of her mother, or at an establishment her step-father was renting from his employer.

The girl was examined by state pathologist Sophoklis Sophokleous who diagnosed previous hymen rupture.

She claimed that the 36-year-old, who married her mother five years ago, was threatening her that if she said anything to her mother or brother he would stab them both.

Police is investigating a case of rape, sexual exploitation of a child under 13, assault and threatening behaviour.
