Woman dies in head-on collision

A 24-year-old woman, Irini Parpa from Psimolofou, died Friday after her car was involved in a head-on collision with a truck driven by a 32-year-old man from Nicosia.

According to police reports, the woman’s car entered the opposite lane and collided with the truck at around 10.40am at the Nicosia-Palechori road, near the junction leading to Ayii Trimithias old road.

Parpa was transferred to the Nicosia General Hospital where her death was confirmed.

The truck driver, who suffered minor injures, had his wounds treated at the hospital and was released. The breathalyser he was given showed no alcohol consumption.

Police said that due to the collision, Papa was trapped in her car and was freed by the fire service. Traffic was diverted until 2.30pm.

Police urge anyone who might know anything relevant to the accident to call 1460, traffic police or the nearest police station.
