Bar review: Yialos, Latchi, Paphos

Most of us love the sea. Great views and beautiful sunsets and more are on offer at Yialos beach grill house in Latchi. This is one of those places that I almost want to keep a secret, but after a recent visit here, it’s too good not to share as it’s a great spot for sundowners.

As the name suggests, this venue is set right next to the beach and has a grass area complete with wooden picnic tables and benches, and a covered area for seating. Its somewhat ramshackle appearance has recently undergone a makeover and more sturdy structures have been erected, including a new toilet block. However, this recent upgrade doesn’t detract from the ambiance of the venue.

Staff are friendly and the food excellent. This is also a place to enjoy a coffee or a sundowner. The menu includes extensive drinks and snacks options and portions are well sized and great value. Feasts of souvlakia, sheftalia, halloumi, chicken, spare ribs and salads are all on the menu

The venue is casual but the ambiance here is special, the views across the bay are stunning and the sunsets are magnificent.
This is a family-run business and along with tourists, it remains hugely popular with local Cypriots, which is always a good sign and it’s usually buzzing.

Tables and chairs are basic and covered in blue and white checked table cloths and the café is busy, especially at lunchtime. During peak times, service can occasionally be slow, so be prepared and don’t get frustrated. Relax, enjoy a drink and the view, it’s worth the wait.

This is a family friendly café and there is a small children’s play area set on the grass.

This venue is only open during the summer season and if refined dining is your thing, then Yialos isn’t for you. This is a place to enjoy the surroundings, sip a cold reviving drink and to savour good, honest, tasty food.

Many people come across Yialos by accident, but return time and again. There is something special about this well-kept, well cared for piece of heaven.
