Woman attacks welfare officers

A 32-year-old woman with suspected mental issues was arrested on Tuesday, after threatening two employees of the Larnaca Welfare office with an airgun, according to Larnaca Press.

The woman – who had been hospitalised at the Athalassa Mental Institution in the past – entered the welfare office and threatened the workers, claiming that they had cut her benefits.
Police arrived at the scene but the 32-year-old had fled in her car.

A patrol car gave chase and finally caught up with the woman at Phaneromeni Avenue. The woman crashed her car into the patrol car but caused minimal damage. She did not resist arrest.

She was transferred to the Athalassa hospital upon arrest. Prior to the incident, Larnaca police had filed a request to have her committed there on an unrelated charge.
