Evriviades receives ‘best diplomat’ award

By Constantinos Psillides

THE Cyprus High Commissioner in London, Euripides Evriviades, has received the “European Diplomat of the Year” award on Monday, a distinction granted by the British magazine “Diplomat.”

Accepting the award, Evriviades said that it belonged to everyone working at the High Commission, adding that they work systematically to promote Cyprus’ interests in the UK, strengthen the ties between the two countries and provide services to all Cypriots who made the UK their second home.

“The expats here are a living bridge connecting Cyprus to the UK,” remarked the High Commissioner.

Evriviades also thanked his wife of 25 years, calling her “an unsung hero”.

The Cypriot diplomat assumed duties in London on November 2013.

He had previously served as an ambassador and permanent representative of Cyprus at the Council of Europe, and ambassador to the US, Holland and Israel.

“Diplomat” was first issued in 1947. Its subscribers – around 5,000 and mostly diplomats stationed in London – take an annual online vote to award the “diplomat of the year award” to various regions globally.
