Brand new sounds

By Maria Gregoriou

TRI-COOL-ORE, a three-member boy band who have been taking the local music scene by storm, are getting ready to tour the island to present us all with their debut album Oregano Infused (which may sound like a dish you could order at a Greek restaurant but is actually a very different proposition, carrying some very original sounds your way).

Until now the boys (Angelos Doukas on the piano and keyboards, Vasilis Vasileiou on drums and percussion, and Nikos Doukas on bass and loops) have managed to win over audiences with their unique sounds. Their music is built on jazz, African music – or as they put it, soul music – some melodies from the east and some tunes which very much take their lead from Greek traditional vibes.

With the experience of playing at some of the most important festivals on the island, like Aglanjazz – a jazz music festival which takes place in Aglanjia during the summer period – the first Windcraft Music festival, and at the first Cyprus Jazz and World Music Showcase, as well as at the music stages which are known to host international and local names, like the Rialto.

But Cyprus is not the only corner of the world to hear their music, Greece has also had the chance to listen to some Tri-Cool-Ore sounds, and they’ll also be going to the UK in May.

Now with a number of live appearances under their belt, they are ready to tour the island promoting their first album, which will be released on Monday, which also happens to be the day when their tour begins in Nicosia.

The album is made up of nine original instrumental pieces composed by the members of the band. As of its release date, the album will be available to download on the band’s webpage (www.tricoolore.com) and on other major online stores, and you can order a hard copy – or hands-on copy if you prefer the term – also from the band’s website. But if you would much rather be traditional and go into a store to buy the CD, that can also be done at Windcraft Music Centre in Nicosia, at Coffee Shop Avozo in Limassol, Three Sitting Birds in Larnaca and Timothy’s Art & Bar in Paphos.
