Claims of Georghadji’s daughter’s dubious employ refuted

CLAIMS that Marianna Georghadji – daughter of Central Bank governor Chrystalla Georghadji – continues to work at her father’s law firm representing former Laiki boss Andreas Vgenopoulos, whom the Central Bank has sued for €2bn over the lender’s demise, despite the governor’s assurances of the contrary, are “astoundingly false” and the “figment of sick imagination”, space asset management company Kypros Satellites announced yesterday.

The claims were made by accountant Kypros Yiorgakis at a House Ethics committee session, which he told that last month one of his customers – presumably Kypros Satellites – told him that they were being represented by Marianna Georghadji.

Yiorgakis took this to mean that the lawyer continued to be employed at her father’s law firm, which had caused heated political debate late last year over whether the link between Chrystalla Georghadji and the law firm representing Vgenopoulos constituted a conflict of interest.

The furore subsided in November, when Georghadji announced that her daughter had left her father’s law firm, only to be rekindled following Tuesday’s allegations at the Ethics committee session.

Yiorgakis had previously been employed by legacy Laiki’s Special Administrator, a post he resigned for unspecified reasons.

In a statement yesterday, Kypros Satellites noted that Yiorgakis is employed by their accountants Nacouzi & Co Ltd.

In a letter to the accounting firm, Kypros Satellites director Angelos Pieri expresses shock at the “sheer magnitude of lies and unprofessional behaviour” on Yiorgakis’ part, and describes his claims before the Ethics committee as a “figment of sick imagination”.

“Marianna Georghadji has been personally commissioned as legal consultant to Kypros Satellites Ltd for the purposes of the same project that your company has been commissioned,” Pieri said.

“She does not represent Andreas Georghadjis’ law firm, and she has never claimed so anywhere.”

According to the letter, Marianna Georghadji was employed by the asset managers in January 2015, offering her specialised expertise in collaboration with a foreign legal house.

Referring to the February 11 meeting that Yiorgakis cited, Pieri denied “categorically” that Georghadji attended on behalf of Andreas Georghadjis’ law firm.
