Rainfall to continue

A LOW pressure front is affecting the area resulting in rainfall and a drop in temperature, putting an end to the sunshine and above normal temperatures of the last few days.

According to the Meteorology Service, light showers are expected to continue on Thursday.

Temperature will drop to 18 degrees, a 3C drop from last week’s sunny 22.

While sudden rainfall usually results in flooding of houses and roads, no major problems were reported to either the police or the fire department.

It was not immediately known whether a major power outage in Larnaca yesterday morning was due to the light showers. EAC spokeswoman Christina Papadopoulou-Theofanidou told the Cyprus Mail that repair groups would assess the damage and determine whether rainfall was a contributing factor. The outage was caused when an underground cable was damaged.
