Financial aid granted for flood victims

The Cabinet on Tuesday approved €1.5 million for financial assistance to people affected by the severe weather in December 2014 and January 2015.

It said the money was approved because the scale of the disaster was unprecedented and had affected many more categories of people than would usually qualify for compensation.

“For this reason, it was decided by the minister of interior to support people who had been affected by the disaster and had immediate needs,” a Cabinet statement said.

It also The Cabinet also approved the establishment of the special committee, which will consist of the director general of the interior ministry, the relevant district officer and the head of technical services, to examine complaints and claims relating to proprietary equipment and rented business premises, and commercial vehicles and machines in relation to compensation.
