Police arrest burglary suspect

Limassol police detained a 35-year-old Georgian man in connection with numerous burglaries and thefts of valuables, designer goods, and cash worth thousands of euros.

The man, a Greek passport holder, had been intercepted at 3.30pm on Wednesday by police on patrol. He was arrested after he could not provide a satisfactory explanation about €2,170 in cash, an expensive wristwatch, and a car key found in his pockets.

During this time, a car approached the area but the driver sped off after noticing the police. Officers found out that it belonged to a 30-year-old wanted for burglary since the end of October 2014.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s flat found €17,297 in cash, electronic equipment, jewellery, watches, designer bags, apparel, and shoes, perfumes, alcohol, a painting, tools, ski-masks, and a number of car keys.

The suspect later led police to a car stolen after a break-in in Limassol earlier this month. Next to it was a second vehicle reported stolen in December last year, police said.

Police are seeking two more individuals, aged 30 and 24, in connection with the same case.
