Man in hospital after cocaine found in stomach

A 46 year old Nigerian man travelling on a Dutch passport is under police guard at Paphos general hospital after cylindrical packages thought to contain cocaine were found in his stomach.

Drugs squad officers – YKAN – acting on a tip off searched the man’s luggage after arresting him on landing at Paphos airport on Sunday afternoon. Nothing was found, but a number of packages showed up inside his stomach during an x-ray at Paphos general hospital.

According to police, the suspect arrived on a flight from Brussels and so far 18 suspicious packages have been recovered from his stomach. He will be brought before the court once all the evidence has been secured.

Meanwhile, on Friday two Cypriot men aged 40 and 50 were arrested after a cannabis unit was unearthed at an apartment in Yeroskipou, Paphos.
Drugs squad officers acting on a tip off undertook a coordinated operation at the apartment and believe they have uncovered a well-established illegal operation.

They found more than 50 cannabis plants, a large quantity of cannabis ready for sale and a large amount of professional equipment which helped create greenhouse like conditions to encourage the plants to thrive. This included humidifiers, heat lamps and equipment to recycle air.
Some cannabis was also being dried out ready to sell on, according to police.
