Sterling and Coutinho strike late to rescue Liverpool

By Sam Holden

Late goals by Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho sent Liverpool through to the FA Cup fifth round with a 2-1 replay victory at Championship (second tier) Bolton Wanders on Wednesday night.

The hosts took the lead when former Chelsea and Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen coolly slotted home a penalty after Martin Skrtel was adjudged to have clipped young striker Zach Clough in the area after 59 minutes.

But a Sterling volley through the legs of the Bolton goalkeeper with four minutes left was followed by a long-range Coutinho strike in stoppage time to win the fourth-round replay for the Premier League giants.
The two sides drew 0-0 in the first match at Anfield. Liverpool next face an away tie at Crystal Palace on February 14.

“We had a few chances to put the game away but we didn’t take them. It was a great team effort to stick in the game and get the win in the end,” Sterling told BBC One straight after the final whistle.

“When we went 1-0 down and hit the post three times it didn’t look like our day but we got there in the end. Philippe Coutinho has the magic to turn the game on its head and we saw that again.”

Following is the revised draw for the FA Cup fifth round after Wednesday’s replay:

Crystal Palace v Liverpool
Arsenal v Middlesbrough
Aston Villa v Leicester City
West Bromwich Albion v West Ham United
Bradford City v Sunderland
Blackburn Rovers v Stoke City
Derby County v Reading
Preston North End v Manchester United

Ties to be played over the weekend of February 14-15
