Give religion a chance

By Maria Gregoriou

With religion being at the centre of most every social conversation going on these days, and on the cover of most newspapers, the Home for Cooperation is hosting a meeting to celebrate World Religion Day on Sunday at 3pm until 5.30pm.

The meeting, which strives to achieve its theme, religions working in unity for peace, has been run in previous years in the occupied area of Nicosia, Limassol and Larnaca but this is the first time it will be held at a place where people from all over the island can meet.

Held on the third Sunday of January every year, World Religion Day allows people to mingle with the followers of all religions in a friendly atmosphere.

This meeting hopes to bring followers of an array of religions together. Followers will speak on Jewish, Buddhist, Christian, Islamic and Baha’i faiths. After the different talks prayers will be given and heard from these various religions in various languages.

The chairperson for the meeting will be Dr Areti Demosthenous and the followers of the Baha’i faith, who are organising the event, invite anyone who would like to attend the meeting to come along and share their own religious views.

For more information contact Maria Constantinou on 22-668515 who can give explanations in Greek, Tacgey Debeș on 0542-8510189 who will be able to explain in Turkish or Eric Hellicar 97-631874 who will explain in English or send an email to [email protected].
