A Sunday full with sound

There are lots and lots of musical talents coming to the island and landing on our island on Sunday to start the New Year off with more than just one bang is DJ Freespirit.

He will be making some waves at Ammos Beach bar in Larnaca with his electrifying sounds and jumping performance. Freespirit, or Sotiris Felonis as his mum likes to call him, has been in the business of making music for the last ten years. During that time he has shared the recording booth with some of the best DJs of our time, including Richie Hatwin, Steve Lawler and Nick Warren. But that ain’t all, he has also played in clubs all over the world and also promotes some of the most successful events in his home town of Patra.

If raising the roof isn’t really your thing and you would rather wave your lighter in the air, you could catch Panos Katsimihas and the band Kitrina Podilata, who will be performing as part of their nice ‘n’ easy tour in Larnaca.

Before becoming a solo artist Katsimihas was in a duet with his brother Harris from 1985 until 2006. Together they created and performed some of the most recognisable songs in the alternative music scene in Greece. Since going their separate ways, Katsimihas has released two solo albums.

Kitrina Podilata (Yellow Bicycles) is a two man band consisting of George Pantelias and Alexandros Pantelias. The boys have released nine albums since 2000 and, besides sharing a stage with Katsimihas, they have also partnered with other musical legends in Greece such as Philippos Pliatsikas, Glikeria, Tania Tsanaklidou and Vassilis Papconstantinou.

Kitrina Podilata have more of a rock sound than Katsimihas but they are also known for being a part of the alternative music genre and, as such, they won an award for the best alternative music band at the Arion Music Awards in Greece in 2004.

Wherever you choose to get your fill of music, Sunday is sure to be anything but a lazy one on the couch.
