Casino bill sent to parliament

The Cabinet has forwarded to parliament a bill governing the establishment, operation and monitoring of casinos, it was announced on Tuesday.
The bill has been vetted by the Attorney-general’s office, while the accompanying regulations are to be also forwarded soon to the House.
The ministry of commerce invites interested parties to submit their remarks on the draft regulations, which have been posted on the ministry’s website (http://www.mcit.gov.cy) as of December 22.
Remarks can be sent to the email address, [email protected], by midnight of January 16, 2015.
The government bill includes provisions for strict control of the types of games, betting level, and equipment, as well as the actual venues housing the casino.
The bill also has rules concerning the protection of minors and vulnerable groups of the population and the provision of assistance to those addicted to gambling.
The operator gets to choose which district the resort will be located in, an avoidance tactic by the government, which has been under pressure from all districts to award them the licence.
