Paintball-gun robber jailed for more than five years

A 25-year-old Bulgarian man was sentenced to five and a half years in jail on Wednesday after he was found guilty of robbing a bank with a paintball gun.

Ivan Mitev had admitted robbing the Kontea co-op in Dromolaxia on August 22. It was just before 1pm when he entered the bank wearing a hood, a black long-sleeved t-shirt and blue shorts with white stripes.

Wielding the paintball gun, Mitev demanded the money in broken English. He was handed €22,000 and he left the branch on foot.

Police raided his home on August 30, finding most of the cash – €14,490 — hidden in the roof tiles.

Officers also found the hood the 25-year-old wore during the robbery.

Police located the suspect using the description provided by the bank workers and the footage from the co-op’s security cameras.

Mitev, who apparently had a record, was also seen in the area before and after the robbery.
