Speed cheat runs over policeman’s foot

A traffic policeman was injured on Tuesday after his foot was run over by a speeding driver who tried to get out of being issued a ticket by fleeing the scene, a police report said.

At approximately 6.40 pm on Tuesday, members of traffic police had caught a car travelling over the speed limit – 125 kilometres per hour instead of 80 – and pulled the driver over.

But while an officer was at the front of the car trying to record the vehicle’s registration number, the 36-year-old driver took off, running over the policeman’s left foot.

He didn’t get far – he was cut off near the Limassol general hospital – and was arrested on the spot.

The injured officer was transported to Limassol general, where doctors found minor injuries in his left foot and admitted him for treatment.
