Greek language and missing persons on Demetrios’ schedule

ARCHBISHOP Demetrios of America had a full schedule of meetings yesterday, on the second day of his visit to the island, with the preservation of the Greek language and the humanitarian issue of missing persons high on his agenda.

In the morning he met with Education minister Costas Kadis where they discussed the strengthening of relations between the ministry and the Archbishopric in the U.S. as well as promoting the Greek language in schools.

Demetrios also visited the Anthropology Lab of the Committee on Missing Persons (CMP) at the old Nicosia airport, followed by a visit to the Leventis Art Gallery in Nicosia, where he was given a tour of the exhibits.

At noon the Ambassador of Greece Vasilis Papaioannou hosted a lunch in his honour.

In the afternoon Demetrios met with the Commissioner for Humanitarian and Overseas Affairs, Fotis Fotiou and later met with the U.S. Ambassador John Koenig.

Last night, the Archbishop was hosted during a private dinner in Limassol by First Lady Andri Anastasiades at their home.

Demetrios’s week-long visit started on Tuesday and in his agenda is the Cyprus problem, charity foundations in Cyprus and educational issues.

He was invited by President Nicos Anastasiades.
