Home for Cooperation wins EU heritage prize

The Home for Cooperation, located in an historic building in Nicosia’s UN-controlled buffer zone, has been awarded the European Union prize for cultural heritage.

Launched by the Association for Historical Dialogue and Research in 2011, the Home for Cooperation encourages both communities to engage in historical research, cultural activities, dialogue and peace-building.

The European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards is the most prestigious accolade in the cultural heritage sector.

It covers four areas: conservation; research and digitisation; dedicated service; education, training and awareness-raising.

European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth Androulla Vassiliou will unveil a plaque in Nicosia on Tuesday September 16 to celebrate the award.

The Commissioner will be joined by Irina Subotic, Vice-president of Europa Nostra, Ingrid Schulerud, Ambassador for the European Economic Area and Norway Grants, Nicosia Mayor Constantinos Yiorkadjis and his counterpart for northern Nicosia, Mehmet Harmanci.
