Man, 82, suffers heart attack while swimming

An 82-year-old man died on Thursday after apparently suffering a heart attack while swimming at Dasoudi beach, Limassol.

According to a police bulletin, Andreas Georgiou was swimming near the breakwater, at a distance of around 300 meters from the shore, when he began calling out for help.

Bathers rushed to his aid and helped him onto the beach, where lifeguards gave him CPR.

Georgiou, who had a history of heart troubles, was rushed to Limassol general hospital. Doctors there pronounced him dead on arrival.
