Land fraud arrests

THE Nicosia District court remanded two men, aged 56 and 57, for eight days in relation to a land scam in Limassol.

According to the police report, the two men, along with four others who are currently wanted, attempted to sell a plot of land belonging to an elderly couple from Nicosia.

One of the two suspects rented the plot for business purposes, but along with the rest presented the Land Registry with forged documents, claiming that the plot belonged to him and that he wanted to sell it.

The plot, estimated to be worth €230,000, was sold for €107,000. Police estimates that the money went to one of the wanted men, who appears to be the brain of the operation.

Once the elderly couple realised that their land was sold illegally, they reported the case to the police.
