Insurance fraud warning

PAPHOS police warned the public on Thursday to make sure they take out insurance policies from legitimate agents after the arrest of a 48-year-old Romanian national suspected of selling bogus contracts.

Police said the suspect was remanded in custody for eight days in connection with selling 75 motor insurance policies between May and August worth around €15,000.

He was arrested after a 58-year-old Paphos man complained to the police that he had paid for a car policy but the insurance company never issued a certificate.

Paphos police spokesman Nicos Tsiapis said they were investigating certain allegations made by the suspect.
