Easy swimming for those in wheelchairs

FIVE BEACHES on the island are providing easy access to the sea for wheelchair bound swimmers, the Cyprus Paraplegics Association (OPAK) announced on Monday.
“The ‘seatrac’ system is an easy and safe way to transfer a person in and out of the sea,” the announcement said.
The beaches are: Yianna Marie in Protaras, Vathia Gonia in Ayia Napa, Akti Olympion, next to the pier in Limassol, SODAP beach in Paphos and the tourist beach in Polis Chrysochous.
The announcement said that in all of these beaches there is wheelchair access from the car park to the edge of the beach where the seatrac system is installed and from where the disabled can enter the sea. All the beaches have wheelchair accessible toilets.
Four of the five systems were 80 per cent funded by European funds and ‘Cyprus-Greece 2007-2013’ cross border cooperation (CBC).
