Helios memorials

USING the title ‘nine years after the sun went down’ the relatives of the 121 victims of the August 14, 2005 Helios airplane crash are organising memory events on August 9 and 14.

On Saturday the committee is inviting everyone wanting to honour and remember the victims to attend to a candle lighting at 8.30pm; the event will take place in Nicosia at Phaneromeni Church, Limassol at Ayias Zonis Church, Larnaca at Evropis Square and Paralimni at Ayios Georgios Church.

On August 14, there will be a church memorial at the Ayia Paraskevi and Panayias Eleftherotrias Church in Mosphiloti between 5.30 and 8.30am. The liturgy will be carried out by Trimithountos Bishop Varnavas.

A memorial will also be carried out in Grammatiko, Greece at the Church built at the site where the plane crashed. The liturgy will begin at 8am and will be carried out by the Bishop of Kifissia Kyrillos.
