Bar review: Elixir Cocktail Bar, Limassol

Now that the summer heat has settled in for good there is nothing better than a refreshing cocktail to chase it away and leave you feeling refreshed. One of the best places to try this summer for their fun and quirky cocktails is Elixir in the town center of Limassol.

Being in the new nightlight hub near Saripolou square, it is ideally located as it is near enough to the hustle and bustle of the centre without being overwhelmed by the crowds that pour into it day in and day out. It is a modern and minimalistic bar, playing a lot on a wood and concrete pallet teamed with low and black lighting making it a great place to relax. It is staffed by excellent barmen too.

When it comes to the cocktails head for the TIKI selection. Served in tiki cups, they make you feel like you should be lounging on a Caribbean island rather than being in Cyprus. The crowning jewel of the tiki cocktails is the Aged Mai Tai, which is made with home blended rum aged in the bar’s barrel, mixed with pineapple, almond syrup, Cointreau, lime and a splash of red orange juice. A must have cocktail for the summer, it is refreshing, sweet and strong (even if you can barely taste the alcohol). Another great tiki cocktail is the Elixittiki made with aged Elixir rum and shaken with a mango puree, elderflower syrup, chilli, guava juice and fresh lime.

If the idea of the tiki cocktail does not tickle your taste buds then you can also try other cocktails the bar has to offer.

All cocktails have something fresh to offer, long gone are the days of the margarita. Try the Hot Chilli Lips made with caramel and red chilli muddled with fresh mango, shaken with Absolut Mango, fresh lime and guava juice. Or the Escaramujo made with Havana club 3 anos and shaken with homemade lemongrass syrup, rose peppercorns, a dash of lychee and guava juice. More usual cocktails with interesting new twists include the staple mojito, daiquiri and margarita.

And the best thing? A price of €7-8 per cocktail, which is as cheap as you can get in Limassol. So this summer, if you are feeling a cocktail then do not even consider it and head down to Elixir.
