UN SG’s report on UNFICYP before the Security Council next week

UN SECRETARY General Ban Ki-moon`s report on the UN peace keeping force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) is expected to be handed over to the UN Security Council members on Monday or Tuesday.
The report will be technical in its part referring to UNFICYP, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Saturday. It will also include a chapter on the Secretary General`s good offices mission, that will refer to the events that followed the issuing of the joint statement by the President Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu, on February 11 this year.
UN officials have assured that the report will be objective, without any particular recommendations by the Secretary General, apart from those already expressed – the need to seize the opportunity to settle the Cyprus problem and the need for the two leaders to show political will.
Deliberations by the five Security Council permanent members are not expected to begin before July 10, while the plenary session to adopt the relevant resolution has been scheduled for July 30.
