‘Candidates who reflect what society wants’

LEADER of ruling party DISY, Averof Neofytou asked the people to cast a vote for his party in the upcoming EU elections, claiming that his is the only party presenting the electorate with candidates who reflect what the society wants.
“Candidates that will avoid conflicts are experienced, knowledgeable and politically capable. We are part of the most powerful bloc in the European Parliament. By voting for DISY, voters vote for the largest party in the Parliament, the European People’s Party,” Averof said, adding that Cyprus has greatly benefited from the EU since it received funding from the European Structural Funds.
Averof said the EU made mistakes when handling the Cyprus banking crisis, noting that Cypriots were burdened with those mistakes.
“We need to make the changes that the country needs, changes that are long overdue,” he underlined.
The DISY leader called for an end to impunity, adding that only through stability and financial reform would the institutions regain their credibility and the trust of the people.
Asked on the rising number of non-performing loans (NPLs), the DISY leader said banks don’t need House imposed regulations to deal with them and that they should go after defaulting debtors “whether they are well known or not”.
DISY’s candidates are: former University of Cyprus dean Stavros Zenios, activist Rena Hoplarou, MP Lefteris Christoforou, incumbent MEP Eleni Thecharous, former government spokesman Christos Stylianides and EVROKO leader Demetris Syllouris.
EVROKO joined the DISY campaign for the euro elections as they also take part in the government.
