Quad bikes and motorcycles forbidden at Kourion Hill

The antiquities department warned on Wednesday that the use of quad bikes and motorcycles at beach area near the ancient site at Kourion was prohibited.

An announcement said members of the public wishing to celebrate Green Monday on March 3 on Kourion Hill should refrain from using such vehicles.

“This area has been declared an ancient monument,” the department said.

“In the last few years it has been observed that on Green Mondays, visitors taking part in such actions are destroying the archaeological stratigraphy and the architectural remains of the site. We would like to urge the public to avoid these activities as they are considered to be both dangerous and destructive for our cultural heritage.”
