If you’re looking for something different, a visit to the newest boutique bar to open in Paphos is a must.
Guru is now a well-established concept in Cyprus – it was born in Ayia Napa in the 1990s and the franchise has now opened a venue in Paphos. Stylish and unique, Guru is found on Poseidonos Avenue in Kato Paphos and has only been open for a matter of weeks.
Music is an important aspect of the Guru concept – they even have their own CD releases – and resident and guest DJs enjoy playing a range of different styles including down tempo, tech house, ambient, lounge, techno and ethnic. Guru is all about casual chic.
The Paphos branch is owned by local Cypriot Nikos Charalmbous, who owned Koy restaurant previously operating at the same site, who says he felt a need for change and wanted to introduce something completely different to the Paphos scene so approached Guru to collaborate.
Guru cocktails are a specialty. The Guru Food menu is best described as Asian fusion and is extensive, it includes a selection of sushi and other succulent delights and the drinks menu is thoughtful. Shisha is also available.
The new venue has a mostly white interior with accents of colour here and there; although it’s transformed at night, when careful lighting adds extra splashes of colour.
Guru staff dress in white and customers have the choice of sitting at tables, at the bar or at tall bar tables.
There is a large shaded outdoor area to the front of the building which will house an outdoor bar, and will be filled with comfortable tables, day beds and sofas during the warmer months. An upstairs indoor seating area, accessed via a white staircase in the interior, is lined with candles and statues of elephants, and is more private.
A large mirror and stunning light fixtures as well as other pieces were brought in from abroad. Attention to detail is scrupulous.
Guru is a stunning alternative to the norm and Nikos said that weddings are also due to be held at the Paphos venue in the coming months. Future events are also planned and the venue is an ideal place to host a large group of friends.
As well as locals, Guru is attracting holidaymakers, as it’s situated in an area of numerous hotels and hotel apartments. Numbers are sure to swell as the weather heats up, and guests will be drawn to the venue by the cool exterior and the laid back ambience.
If new ideas or experiences appeal; you like to relax and unwind with friends or a special someone, a visit to Guru in Paphos should be high on your list.
