Three suspects arrested in ‘seductive’ robbery scam

Two men aged 21 and 20 from Ormidia, and a 26-year-old woman from Xylofagou were arrested by British bases police on Friday and will be held for questioning until Tuesday while police investigate an armed robbery.

Dhekelia’s base’s police spokesman Andreas Pitsillides said they were investigating two separate cases against the three people who were arrested. In each case the trio would allegedly use the same modus operandi.

According to reports, the woman would allegedly lure young men in an isolated area near the village of Ormidia, on British bases territory and pretend to seduce them in a car. She would then get out of the vehicle claiming that nature was calling.

Then two men would appear, one wielding a knife, threatening and robbing the unsuspecting victims.

“The first case, after he was threatened with a knife, the victim handed over cash and a number of CDs. In the second case, the robbers forced the man to return home where they took cash and an Mp3 player,” Pitsillides said.

The two men then returned to the home the next day but ran away when the young man told them that he had informed the police, Pitsillides added.

“The police were notified and arrested and the three suspects will appear before British bases court on Tuesday to answer the charges brought against them,” he said.
