Arrest in Larnaca job scam

Bulgarian police have arrested a 48-year-old local man in connection with a scam involving some €250,000 taken from Cypriots duped into shelling out in return for a job abroad.

Cypriot police says the man is an accomplice of a Tunisian national suspected of setting up the Larnaca company that allegedly fooled some 400 people into paying €620 each with the promise of employment in France.

A second man, Greek national Anastasios Mavas who is also believed to be an accomplice of the Tunisian, was arrested in Serbia earlier this month.

The Tunisian suspect remains at large.

He is wanted for allegedly deceiving more than 400 unemployed Cypriots – mainly builders, carpenters, and painters.
