Another opening round defeat for Baghdatis in Moscow

MARCOS Baghdatis’ poor season continued on Tuesday afternoon, the Cypriot losing 3-6, 6-3, 4-6 to Russia’s Evgeny Donskoy in the first round of the Kremlin Cup.

The latest defeat was the 15th first round exit for the world No. 75 this season and he now falls to a 14-21 record for the year.

Donskoy will next face top seeded Frenchman Richard Gasquet in the second round, while the 28-year-old Baghdatis has several days to prepare for the Swiss Indoors in Basel where he reached the final in 2005 and semi-final two years later. He did not feature last year.
