Man dies in Paralimni sea

A 50-YEAR-OLD British tourist died on Monday while swimming off the Pernera coastline in Paralimni.

At around 3.10pm yesterday, police were called to the beach where the man had been pulled out of the sea unconscious by a lifeguard.

A police spokeswoman said that the wife of the 50-year-old British tourist had called for help from a lifeguard in the area.

The lifeguard found the man unconscious in the water, around 30 to 50 metres from the shore. He tried unsuccessfully to administer first aid on the victim..

The 50-year-old was taken to Larnaca general hospital where his death was confirmed.

State pathologist Eleni Antoniou will carry out an autopsy at the hospital today to establish cause of death.
