Nurses to take strike decision

THE members of the nurses’ union on Friday decided in their majority to take measures, including striking indefinitely, should they get their allowances abolished for working in state hospitals during afternoons, Sundays and on public holidays.
A finance ministry proposal could mean the end to extra pay for working afternoons, Sundays and bank holidays, much to the chagrin of the nurses who have already taken a 30 per cent wage cut and a 15 per cent cut for working overtime.
The head of the nurses union Prodromos Argyrides said that if the government insists on the decision to axe extra pay, they may opt to go on indefinite strike.
